Demons In My Teeth

When I close my eyes at night, I am overcome with fright
Ne’r knowin’ which way to look, my demons hold me on the hook
I keep a light on when I sleep, for the demons that I keep
The ones who like to wake me up, the ones who like to spill my cup.
I work real hard to understand, what it means to be human
floatin’ around in ether-space, just wishin’ I could leave this place
Wishin, I could leave this place…
Tell the wrong person your fears, and they’ll lock you up for years
Never seein’ the light of day, and they don’t know that that’s the way
That the darkness wanders in, and you’re never sure again
is it evil? is it you? when it comes to people there’s so few
that i can tell my story to, so I put it in a song just like I do
make the people gather around, watch their smiles turn into a frown
“oh my gosh this baby’s dark. never knew she had this part of her inside just waiting around..
waitin to come out wearin a crown”
Waitin around, in a crown…
There are many parts of me, I’m a fracture don’t you see?
A prism of light that’s breaking up, what is light is also dark
Black and white don’t work for me, cuz i got demons in my teeth
When i smile you can see, if yer lookin’ closely
Don’t look to close at me….
Darkness lives inside us all, it’s a constant bloody brawl
Do i let this person out? Do i let you hear them shout?
Do i muffle, strangle, and kill, all the parts that give me thrill?
It gets hard to know what’s real…I get on my knees and kneel
kneeling at the cross…

Huge thanks to Greg McGarvey for utilizing his mastery of guitar and soundscapes to create the feeling for this song that has laid dormant in my mind for some time. His album, Crickets Surround is dreamy, nostalgic, and rockin’. Although Crickets Surround as a whole is one big fantastic journey, I often find myself singing ‘I Don’t Mind the Rain’, ‘Laze Away’, and the title track ‘Crickets Surround’ - but really, every song is so dang wonderful. Greg also edited and created this video for me - for that I have much gratitude.
Also shoutout to Christina Margot whom, during my pre-song rambling, tells me I’m safe. I didn’t hear her on stage, but the audio captured her loving words and I can say I certainly felt the sentiment in my body during the performance <3 She is also an incredibly talented singer songwriter. Give her music a listen.
Thank you for being here
Peace on Earth,
Al
